When the original aired from '92 to '99, it was the kind of period piece - to some working young professionals, anyway - hat left viewers both loathing and loving the drama. The bombs, the catfights, not to mention the smoking-hot cast, kept everyone glued to the TV, even if it wasn't the kind of thing you wanted to admit around the office.
