The official announcement regarding this year's edition of Ozzy Osbourne's long-running traveling metal festival, Ozzfest, will be made this Friday night, April 30. The tour will mark the first time the two bands have toured together since 1984, during the Crües breakthrough appearance as Ozzy's opening act on a major U.S. tour.

Ozzfest, which took a year off in 2009 and was a one-day event headlined by Ozzy and Metallica in in 2008, will kick off August 14 in San Bernardino, California (the birthplace of the first Ozzfest in 1996) and then make stops in Chicago; Hartford, Connecticut; Camden, New Jersey; Pittsburgh; and Boston. Live Nation will promote the tour nationally.

The main stage will feature full sets from Ozzy, the Crue and Rob Halford, the latter performing songs from his solo career along with material from Judas Priest and Fight. DevilDriver and Nonpoint will fill out the main stage line-up. Second stage headliners and six-time Ozzfest veterans Black Label Society will be joined by Drowning Pool, Kingdom of Sorrow, and Goatwhore, Skeletonwitch, Saviours and Kataklysm.

In addition to the general slowdown in both the economy and the concert business, Ozzfest began facing competition in 2008 from the Rockstar Energy Mayhem tour and Crüe Fest. Tour co-organizer Sharon Osbourne experimented in 2007 by making the show admission-free, with fans obtaining tickets through corporate sponsors. But the bands were not paid either, leading to a lack of big names.

Each date on the tour will include 13 bands on two stages with music beginning at 1:00 p.m., according to the statement. There will also be a "Village of the Damned," featuring interactive activities, shopping and entertainment throughout the venue concourses.

Amy Haberland, 52, of Arlington, wants to spend "as little as possible" on a new dishwasher and refrigerator, but like many other people she has been unable to get a rebate coupon. Repeated attempts to get on the website failed, she said, and after many calls to the phone line set up by the state, Haberland said, she got a message that said the line was closed.

"I'm not going to buy anything until I know I'm going to get the rebate," she said.

Helicopters, ships and an airplane searched waters off Louisiana's coast Wednesday for at least 11 workers missing after an explosion and fire that left an offshore drilling platform tilting in the Gulf of Mexico. Most of the 126 people were believed to have escaped safely after the explosion on the rig Deepwater Horizon at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, Coast Guard Senior Chief Petty Officer Mike O'Berry said. The rig, about 52 miles southeast of Venice on Louisiana's tip, was listing about 10 degrees and still burning Wednesday morning.

Coast Guard Senior Chief Petty Officer Mike O'Berry said 126 workers were aboard when the explosion happened. He said the seven workers were airlifted to a Naval air station near New Orleans, then taken to hospitals. Two of the seven were taken to a burn unit in Mobile, Alabama.

The rig was drilling but was not in production, according to Greg Panagos, spokesman for its owner, Transocean Ltd., in Houston. The rig was under contract to BP PLC. BP spokesman Darren Beaudo said all BP personnel were safe but he didn't know how many BP workers had been on the rig.

Kerver said the Coast Guard and the Minerals Management Service will work together to investigate possible causes of the accident.

"It's still too early to tell the cause," Panagos said. "Our focus right now is on taking care of the people."

"It caused a smog that was really rather nasty, there was a failure of crops as a result of acid rain, the air quality was really very poor. But that took the better part of two years to cause that kind of effect and certainly we are not looking at anything like that right now."

The Day of Silence is meant to protest the bullying and harassment directed towards many queer-identified individuals and their supporters (or allies) specifically in schools, but also in society as a whole. This is an organized national movement, which took place at more than 8,000 different institutions (high schools, colleges and universities) and engaged more than 100,000 students in 2008. This year will mark the 14th annual Day of Silence, which was originally held at the University of Virginia.

The event began in 1996 when over 150 students at the University of Virginia organized a Day of Silence to draw attention to homophobia and anti-gay harassment. The Day of Silence was covered extensively by the local press and was largely well received by the UVA community, which made the event's organizers think it would be a good idea to expand to a National Day of Silence. Since then, the event has grown year on year, with similar events now being held in other countries such as Australia.

At February 12, 2008, 15-year- old Lawrence King was shot and killed by a 14-year old peer in California, simply for being gay and having effeminate qualities. He was shot twice from point-blank range on school property. April 9, 2009, an 11-year old Massachusetts boy, Carl Walker-Hoover, who did not identify as gay, went home after school and hanged himself after daily taunts of being a “fag.” His mother made weekly requests to the school to address the problem, but there was no effort made.

Last year, just days before the 2009 Day of Silence, 11-year-old Massachusetts student Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover took his own life after suffering a campaign of sustained bullying over his perceived sexuality. You can read more about Carl's tragic story by going here.

Today (April 14) has special meaning to me. My late father, Michael Gilchrist Sr., would have been 44. He passed away when I was 2, and I know he would be so proud of me right now. I wish he were here to share these times with me.

I want to thank my mother, Cynthia Gilchrist Richardson. Obviously I would not be here if not for her. But I want to say that I could not ask for a better mother, friend, confidant and adviser. I love her very much. Thanks also to my stepfather, Vincent Richardson. His hard work has taught me how to keep my focus. His sacrifice for family has taught me how to keep my feet on the ground. He's been a great dad. I also want to say thank you to my grandmother, Reneé McCleary, for always being there for me and to my sister, Tasha Richardson, for teaching me how to play defense. I have a very large family, and so many of them have been there for me. I just want them all to know I love and appreciate them.

Michael Gilchrist by all indications is a very down-to-earth kid that happens to be an elite basketball player. He is a rare combination of talent that cares more about victories than personal accolades.

The danger, he said, is that during such a slide tall vehicles like S.U.V.’s are easily tripped by curbs or soft ground, potentially causing a rollover.

The problem with the Lexus is that the electronic stability control doesn’t work well, Mr. Champion said. “The design is too slow to correct the slide before you are too far gone.”

In its statement Lexus complained that the magazine did not demonstrate the problem for its representatives. However, Mr. Champion said that when the officials visited the track it was raining hard, which would have made an apples-to-apples duplication impossible. But, he said, they showed the Lexus officials a video of their earlier tests.

Mr. Champion said electronic stability systems used on other Lexus and Toyota models have always worked quickly to stop slides, so the problem on the GX 460 was surprising. The new Toyota 4Runner, which uses the same basic architecture as the Lexus, was tested the same day and did not have the problem, he said.

“I think it is more a calibration issue of the electronic stability control,” Mr. Champion said.

Starting at about $52,000, the GX 460 is a small-volume vehicle for Lexus, Toyota Motor Corp.'s luxury brand. It went on sale in November and only about 5,000 have been sold since then. But the warning represents yet another blow for Toyota's tarnished reputation for safety following recalls of millions of vehicles for faulty gas pedals. The GX 460 is not covered by the pedal recalls.
