Thousands are expected to participate in the Marathon beginning the 26.2-mile trek to Boston including the wheelchair athletes and members of the women's elite field. The Boston Marathon Falls on Patriots' Day 2010. Patriots' Day is a Legal Holiday in Massachusetts. What a coincidence that the Boston Marathon also falls on Patriots' Day - April 19, 2010 - the third Monday in April. According to Wikipedia, "Since 1969, the holiday has been observed on the third Monday in April, providing a three-day long weekend. Previously, it had been designated as April 19 in observance of the anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord, the first battles of the American Revolutionary War. It is also a school holiday for many local colleges and universities, both public and private."
